This is the first time a Middle Eastern country has hosted a World Cup, and the host country was selected in Group A alongside Ecuador, Senegal and the Netherlands.

The FIFA World Cup 2022 will see 32 teams battle it out in Qatar for the title. The competition will start on November 20, 2022.

This is the first time a Middle Eastern country has hosted a FIFA World Cup, and the host country was selected in Group A alongside Ecuador, Senegal and the Netherlands.

Initially, Qatar was due to play Ecuador on 21 November, but decided to ensure the host country played its first match of the World Cup, as has been the norm since 2006. For this reason, it was moved forward one day.

Qatar 2022 will feature a total of 64 matches across seven stadium matches, with the final set on 18 December 2022. See the full tournament schedule here.
