United manager Erik Ten Hag was keen to return with a 24-year-old player who signed with Ajax for another year in 2019.
"I'm honored to be part of this wonderful football club," Martinez said.
"I've worked hard to reach this moment, and now that I'm here, I'll work even harder."
Martinez: Who is Manchester United's new "Butcher in Amsterdam"?
Martinez has played 120 times in Ajax and also played in the Newell's Old Boys after moving £ 6.3 million from Argentinean Defensei Justicia in 2019.
He has won seven caps in Argentina since his senior debut in March 2019 and was featured once in the successful Copa America campaign in 2021.
"I was fortunate to be part of a successful team in my career and I want to continue at Manchester United," he said. Under this manager and these coaches, and with my new teammates, we believe we'll get it done. He was also Ajax's Player of the Year for the 2021/22 season.
"He is a warrior and I think fans will admire him. He has an attitude and a fighting spirit," he said.
"He is aggressive in a good way. We think we need it."
"But he is also skilled, can handle the ball and is his left foot."
United football director John Martov added: We look forward to growing him further and helping the team achieve the success we are aiming for. Eriksen is a free transfer and the Netherlands is a full-back Tyrell Malacia.
